Making bread

Today I made my own loaf of bread.  Not perfectly "clean" because I used bakers flour and not spelt or whole grain flour - but I just got a big bag on the weekend, and thought I may as well use it until I can buy spelt on shopping day.

Mah bread.

It was super SUPER yummy.  Oh freshly baked bread, I have missed you.

So my eating today is as follows:

Breakfast:
Cup of coffee with full fat cows milk, and some oats.  (made with 1/4 cup oats, shredded coconut, blueberries, banana, honey, sunflower seeds, linseeds, cranberries and a splash of milk).

Morning tea:
A juicy peach!

Lunch:
Leftover moroccan beef from last night that I couldn't finish, and a piece of my bread.

Afternoon tea:
Skipped.

Dinner:
We were supposed to have chicken bacon alfredo from Paleomg, however, the chicken defrosted too much and it turned a funky colour, so I cooked up the bacon and had bacon and cheese sandwiches - on my homemade bread.  No butter, no sauce, if it wasn't for the fact I made it with bakers flour it would have been totally clean eating ;)

Dessert:
Orange mango sorbet

Supper:
Cup of tea and some brownies left over from last week.

A new start

This is a new blog for me, detailing my clean eating plan whilst pregnant with baby number 5.  I'm still in a bit of denial that its actually happening, I have a scan lined up for next Monday to see what's happening in there, and get a proper due date on board.  Scary stuff!  Unplanned pregnancies are very scary so hopefully I'll get my head around it the more the pregnancy progresses.

So! I was eating paleo, however, we (myself and Elf Man) had concerns about the right amount of vitamins/minerals/carbs etc that I would be getting to fuel both myself and a growing baby.  Since paleo is dairy free, there isn't much calcium I can get from things, unless I want to gorge myself on linseeds or a bucketload of broccoli.  Neither of them really appeal to me.  Plus, the paleo theory is that since it is low carb, your body learns and adjusts to fueling itself from the fats and protein taken in - instead of carbs which is how our body normally works.

However - that stage doesn't usually occur until you have been on paleo for quite some time, and since I only started it at the beginning of the year - my body hasn't adjusted and I think I'm feeling the ill-effects of not having enough carbs for fuel.  I get a lot of dizzy spells when I stand up (which I have always suffered because I have low blood pressure) however, it has intensified to the point of nearly blacking out since I've been on paleo.

So, I've put aside my paleo wish for the time being, to make sure I am getting the proper diet and full nutrition for myself and the growing baby.

My plan is to make everything myself still - make my own bread (whole wheat, or I might try spelt because Selina seems to like that) and eat full fat dairy instead of low fat (full fat is better for you and even accepted in Primal ways!) and still eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables - however if I want vegemite on toast, I will have it instead of depriving myself.

As usual, still no junk food (hence the no cheezels) or corn chips!  No maccas or any other takeaway, if I want a burger I will make it myself at home.  If I want chocolate, I'll make my own.  Goes without saying that lollies are out unfortunately, and if I want ice cream - I'll make my own!

Hopefully this will get me to feeling good and strong, and help control any weight that I will gain.  I'm hoping to not gain very much, anything under 10kg would be fantastic.  I'm currently around 71kg so I would like to keep it under 80kg.

No calorie counting, just good healthy food - and healthy amounts.  Some of my dinners will probably still be paleo based, just because they are tasty and based on good healthy ingredients!

SO!  I think I'm currently around 7ish weeks and have a massive baby-bloat going on.

I have promised Elf Man that I won't use this as an excuse to just eat crap food - no matter my cravings.  I'm actually excited that I get to have sardines on toast again, and looking forward to getting stuck into some nutritious and hearty soups!

Oh, and I'm also allowing myself two cups of coffee a day - because I have sooo missed it!!!!  Its my little pleasure each day so I'm keeping it.
